Murder Cases Dominate High Court Criminal Session in Kyangwali
Hon. Justice Jesse Byaruhanga Rugyema at the Kyangwali Magistrates Court
A High Court Criminal Session kicked off on Monday December 11, 2023 at the Kyangwali Magistrates Court, where 42cases are going to be handled with Murder toping list with 24 cases.
The session is being presided over by the Hoima High Court Resident Judge, Hon. Justice Jesse Byaruhanga Rugyema.
And it is being held with support from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), Alight and Refugee Law Project (RLP) in a bid to bring justice closer to the refugee community in Uganda.
The cause list signed by Hoima High Court Assistant Registrar, HW Emmanuel Bamwite indicates that Aggravated Defilement follows with 12 files, Aggravated Robbery with four (4), Rape and Attempted Murder each with two cases.
HW Bamwite said the session is expected to last for two weeks and will provide an opportunity for the accused persons, most of whom are refugees, to have their cases heard and determined by the High Court.
The High Court criminal session in Kyangwali is a demonstration of the commitment of the Judiciary, UNHCR through its implementing partner Alight and RLP to uphold the rule of law and protect the rights of refugees and asylum seekers in Uganda.
